Mathematics Short Course 2026 - Gold Coast
Mathematics Short Course 2026 (Gold Coast campus)
9-13 February 2026
The Mathematics Short Course is a five-day intensive course designed to help students prepare for university studies requiring mathematical knowledge and skills. For those with limited mathematical knowledge, this short course is particularly helpful in overcoming mathematical difficulties for studies in:
- Foundation health courses, especially:
- 1001MSC Chemistry of Biological Systems 1
- 1002MSC Introduction to Biomedical Data Analysis
- Science courses:
- 1015SCG Quantitative Reasoning
- 1201SCG Linear Algebra
- 1023SCG Chemistry 1
The course is introductory in nature and does not meet Griffith’s Mathematics prerequisite. During these five days of study, students will learn basic mathematical skills through lectures and, more importantly, through smaller group tutorials where students can ask questions and practice with help from their tutors within the group discussion (maximum 20 students with one tutor).
The content of the course includes:
- Algebraic operations
- Linear and quadratic equations
- Functions in general
- Exponential and logarithmic functions
- Problem solving in applied fields (i.e. chemistry, ecology, environmental economics)
The course will be convened by Dr William Wen.
The cost of this short course is $200. Refund of fees will only be possible if cancellation is least three days prior to the course, (i.e. by Wednesday 4th February 2026). A $10 administrative fee will be charged for refunds. We do reserve the right not to offer the course should circumstances necessitate cancellation, in which case a full refund will be paid.
The venue for the course is Griffith University, Gold Coast campus, Parklands Drive Southport. Staff will meet students in the foyer of the Science 1 building (G24) at 8:45 am on Monday 9th February. Science 1 building (G24) is best approached by entering University Drive at the traffic lights on Parklands Drive and turn left onto Science Drive at the roundabout.
